Q: What is your favorite part of being a manager?

A: My favorite part of being a manager is helping those that report to me develop their potential. As a manager you may find yourself coaching, mentoring or just providing guidance where needed. Whatever the case may be, helping someone grow and develop beyond the role they are in is a rewarding experience even at the risk of losing them to greener pastures.

Q: What has been your favorite project you have worked on within CareerBuilder?

A: During my 12 years at CareerBuilder I have had the opportunity to work on a number of projects both technical and non-technical. In my current role I would say my favorite project is a grouping of projects falling under organization development for Technology. All of my efforts are centered on helping the department solve problems and reach their goals. Whether it’s finding better tools or improving upon internal training programs, it has been very rewarding.

Q: What is your favorite weekend activity?

    A:
a.I love to go rollerskating with my daughter when we have time.
    b. I love spending time with my husband.
    c. I love gardening outdoors. To plant a tree or a plant and see it grow is amazing.

Q: Where would you like to go on for a dream vacation?

A: It may not be dreamy but I would love to visit the state capital of every state in the United States.

Q: What is one thing you want people to know about CareerBuilder?

A: I truly think our values say it all in a nutshell but outside if that I think how CareerBuilder is so supportive of training, teaching, promoting and helping provide resources you need to succeed. I’ve been employed by many different companies and it is extremely obvious that CareerBuilder truly cares and appreciates their employees based on how they go above and beyond every day!

Q: What advice would you give candidates interested in CareerBuilder?

A: If there is something you are passionate about learning or doing, CareerBuilder is a perfect place to dive in and try! Be passionate, be smart, be honest and just go for it.

Q: What is your favorite weekend activity?

A: My husband and I have season tickets to all of the St. Louis sports teams so we go to a lot of sporting events on the weekend. Complete with a good weather tailgate- it doesn’t get much better than that!

Q: What is your guilty pleasure?

A: Binge TV watching- I LOVE TV….All. Of. It. Everyone I know is getting rid of cable but it is absolutely the last thing I could ever part with.

    Product Management

    NAME: Nagini

    TITLE: Director

    DEPARTMENT: Product Management

    Meet Nagini

Q: What has been your proudest moment working at CareerBuilder?

A: Being part of and doing well at Ideas From Everywhere was by far my proudest moment. I submitted the business plan and was thinking I’ll barely make the first cut, but when I got through the initial rounds and made it into the finals I was ecstatic. The day of the final presentation was nerve racking but so much fun to present to a whole room of leaders and judges.

Q: How do you balance your career and family life?

A: To me they are not two separate things. My manager and CareerBuilder give me the flexibility with hours when needed, be it when I was getting my part time MBA at Kellogg or in my new role as a recent mom. Getting things done is what’s valued more.

Q: What celebrity or public figure would you want to interview and why?

A: It’s a tough pick between Marissa Mayer (President and CEO of Yahoo!) and Indra Nooyi (Chief Executive Officer of PepsiCo). Both of them inspire me a ton.

    Human Resources

    NAME: Mary

    TITLE: Recruiter

    DEPARTMENT: Human Resources

    WITH CB FOR: 2 years

    Meet Mary

Q: Describe your career path since you started working at CareerBuilder.

A: I started at CareerBuilder in October of 2012 as a Sales Recruiter. Since then our sales recruiting team has grown and we also now have a team of technical recruiters. Since I started, I have worked with sales managers all over the country in various field offices as well as managers at our headquarters in Chicago. A big part of my job is to create partnerships with these managers so I can have a strong understanding of what they look for in candidates for their teams. I am also now taking classes (thank you CareerBuilder for the tuition reimbursement) to prepare for the PHR certification exam.

Q: How would you describe CareerBuilder's culture?

A: Collaborative. It’s an environment where you feel like you’re working hand in hand across various departments for the common goal of CareerBuilder’s success. We’re all in this together!

Q: What advice would you give candidates interested in CareerBuilder?

A: I would tell anyone interested in CareerBuilder to dig in and learn as much as possible about our history and our industry. The more you know the better! I also recommend networking and reaching out to as many current employees as possible to get their take on what it takes to be successful here. Also, join the Talent Network so that you can be up to date on any positions that open up in your field of interest.

Q: What is your guilty pleasure?

A: I’ve never said no to a bowl of ice cream.

CareerBuilder is a company that truly embraces its values of agility, passion, candor, disciplined freedom and easy to do business with.

Q: How has CareerBuilder changed since you joined?

A: I am proud every time someone tells me that I have made a difference in their lives or work!

Q: What did you want to be when you were little?

Q: What’s your idea of the perfect day?

A: A beautiful sunny day that starts with breakfast out, followed by a GOOD round of golf, then cocktails and dinner outdoors somewhere with family and friends. No stress or worries!

    DEPARTMENT: Marketing

    Meet Katie

Q: What has been your proudest moment working at CareerBuilder?

A: I took the creative lead with our media partner to develop a video that shared a message of how employers are adapting their business and strategy to meet challenges brought on by the skills gap. Not only was the video introduced and played by CareerBuilder’s CEO at our annual Kickoff event, but it went on to receive the 2014 People’s Telly Award. Further to this, I was honored to be presented with the CareerBuilder Diamond Club Award in 2013.

Q: What is best part of working in your department?

A: CareerBuilder is always evolving to meet the needs of our clients and the market. Accordingly, our team is constantly working to improve and fine-tune our marketing strategies as well. From working to understand the client experience, to developing personas, to launching advanced marketing automation processes, there is always a new opportunity and/or challenge to keep me engaged and excited. Further to this, I work with great people!

Q: What would people be surprised to find out about you?

A: I have run the Chicago marathon three times, have completed a triathlon, and have earned a Master’s Degree in Mathematics from DePaul University.

Q: What is your favorite place to eat?

A: RoseAngelis in Lincoln Park is definitely one of my favorites. Not only is this quaint Italian restaurant the site of my first date with my now husband, but it is also where he proposed! (Not to mention, they have awesome tiramisu.) A second favorite would be Shaw’s Crab House, where my parents have a standing Saturday lunch date, and I have an outstanding invitation to join.

Q: What have you enjoyed most about working at CareerBuilder?

A: t’s really hard to sum up my 8 years here but I believe what I have enjoyed the most is both the opportunities to learn and grow but also the fact that the company has always ensured we have a relevant solution set to bring to market. Evolving to a software company creates such a great learning environment and the opportunities I have had to relocate to New York City have always made for an amazing life experience.

Q: What has been your proudest moment working at CareerBuilder?

A: In 2012 I was given the opportunity to run our sales office in New York which not only was a goal of mine but also motivated the direction I took with the career path here. I am always very proud of where I started making 100 phone calls a day in our inside sales channel which is why I am so proud of where it took me. It was 6 years of hard work coming together and what I appreciate the most is that CareerBuilder had a true career path that could allow me to do so. Winning manager of the year in 2009 is probably my best memory and something I am proud because any leader wants to see their people win, and if the leaders wins so do the people

A: I wanted to be a Princess, but apparently you can’t just sign up for that.

Q: What always makes you laugh out loud?

A: I was a Professional Gift Wrapper. I created my own business to generate money between holiday breaks. I would call my neighbors, aunt, uncles and anyone I knew who was shopping during the holidays. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but I ended up accidently switching gifts on people.

Q: What always makes you laugh out loud?

A: When cute animals sneeze. Have you seen that baby panda YouTube video??

Q: What always makes you laugh out loud?

A: The TV show Modern Family never fails to make me laugh out loud. Phil is the best!

Q: What’s your idea of the perfect day?

A: A summertime Saturday on a patio in Chicago.

    Source and Screen

    NAME: Eric

    TITLE: Manager, Sourcing Solutions

    DEPARTMENT: Source and Screen

    Meet Eric

Q: What have you enjoyed most about working at CareerBuilder?

A: Mostly the people. I have had the pleasure of working with some really smart, creative and passionate individuals and have learned a lot from them. It’s energizing to work in this type of environment.

The culture of innovation is also amazing. CareerBuilder is truly a forward-thinking company; and your ideas will be heard. You can literally come up with a new product or service (concept) and actually see it through development (production) and implementation. There are not many companies out there where this is not only strongly encouraged, but can be reality.

Q: How has CareerBuilder changed since you joined?

A: We have transformed our product and service offering dramatically since I joined; we have changed the perception in the industry of who we are. People are starting to realize we are more than just a job board but rather a leader in human capital data, services and solutions.

Our Sourcing Solutions business has also evolved substantially. We have shifted from a transactional model to building and implementing longer-term partnerships with our customers. We have also streamlined our systems and technology which has made us a lot more efficient when executing and delivering on client engagements.

Q: What has been your proudest moment working at CareerBuilder?

A: Our annual Kick-Off Events. The atmosphere and energy at these events is truly amazing. Having the opportunity to see former U.S. Presidents, Heads of State and professional athletes has be great. The entire event is always so motivating and inspirational. The stories shared of how we have not only helped companies, but how we have helped people find employment – change their lives and circumstances makes me feel proud and privileged to be a part of this company.

Q: What did you want to be when you were little?

A: When I was a kid, I had this fascination of being either an astronaut or fireman. I didn’t come close to either one.

Q: What’s the most unusual job you’ve ever had?

A: In high school I worked at the indoor kid’s playground and pizza place Chuck E. Cheese’s; and I was the one and only “Chuck E. Cheese”. Yes, I wore the big rat costume on Saturday mornings – greeting kids as they entered and interacting with them on the game room floor. It could get pretty warm in that outfit!

    Finance

    NAME: Alana

    TITLE: Senior Analyst

    DEPARTMENT: Finance

    Meet Alana

Q: Describe your career path since you started working at CareerBuilder.

A: I started at CareerBuilder in 2011 as a Corporate Financial analyst supporting our corporate functions such as Technology, HR, Customer Care and Legal. Later I chose to move from the corporate function to the International financial area where I supported the Asia companies- Singapore, China, Vietnam and Brazil. International was a huge learning curve as I went from supporting small business units to supporting entire countries! In 2014, I was promoted to a Senior Analyst and moved to support our EMEA where I currently work to support Sweden, Greece and other European countries. It has been fascinating to see how different each and every country operates and be able to take a piece of every experience that I have had up to his point and put it towards my career today.

Q: Which one of CareerBuilder's benefits do you love the most?

A: All of the benefits are just incredible, and it’s almost impossible to pick a favorable. Kickoff is unbelievable! Never in my life would I have thought I would have the chance to hear stories from such powerful political figures or major sports stars and other iconic people in and out of the country.

Q: What is your personal mantra or quote you like to live by?

A: A negative mind will never give you a positive life.

Q: If Hollywood created a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you?

A: First off, I can’t imagine my life eventful enough to make a Hollywood blockbuster out of, however, if I had to choose, I would probably say Jennifer Lawrence. I also really like her personality and how down to earth she is. She pretty much encapsulated my life when she tripped not once, but twice at the Oscars. She would encompass my awkward clumsiness perfectly!

    Finance

    NAME: Angelina

    TITLE: Senior Manager

    DEPARTMENT: Finance

    Meet Angelina

Q: What has been your favorite project you worked on within CareerBuilder?

A: I have really enjoyed preparing and presenting at our annual global finance IT user conferences. International finance team members from all over the world get together in one place to share information, identify challenges, and final solutions. I enjoy helping in a way that I know positively impacts their everyday operations when they return to their local offices. It is always an exciting and productive week!

Q: How do you balance your career and family life?

A: CareerBuilder had made this possible through our company values like disciplined freedom and very generous paid time off benefits. I am able to flex my time when something in my personal life needs to take priority and I am realizing that it is possible to live a healthy, happy life and still by successful in your professional career.

Q: What are your hobbies or interests?

A: I have been shooting pool since I was 7 years old, so I still enjoy a good game with my dad from time to time. I also enjoy golfing on the weekends with my better half.

Q: What celebrity or public figure would you be most interested in interviewing and why?

A: A humanitarian such as Oprah, Bono, or Princess Diana. I would ask questions to learn about their source of strength and courage.

Q: What has been your proudest moment working at CareerBuilder?

A: My proudest moments have been when someone from my team tells me that being on my team has helped them grow professionally and moved them closer to their career goals. I know I am doing okay when other managers want to steal my people away for their own teams.

    Finance

    NAME: Vlad

    TITLE: Director

    DEPARTMENT: Finance

    Meet Vlad

Q: What has been your favorite project you worked on?

A: My favorite project at CareerBuilder was visiting Vietnam for our initial meetings with our now Vietnam acquisition. It was a very helpful experience for me professionally in working through a due diligence but also very eye opening to see how online recruitment works in such a distant market.

Q: What has your been your proudest moment at CareerBuilder?

A: The proudest moment I have had at CareerBuilder was finishing our site and financial system integration in Singapore. We spent a lot of time accommodating the local business and in the end we really delivered a great product.

Q: Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?

A: After thoroughly traveling the globe for work, my dream vacation would be a road trip through the states!

Q: What is your favorite place to eat?

A: Portillo’s in Chicago. We actually had an Italian Beef rating competition for lunch and Portillo’s has always won.

    Site Technology

    NAME: Chelsea

    TITLE: Engineer Lead

    DEPARTMENT: Site Technology

    Meet Chelsea

Q: What have you enjoyed most about working at CareerBuilder?

A: CareerBuilder fosters a lot of camaraderie. Many of us are good friends outside of work, and I have a lot of great mentors here for both professional and personal development.

The company is also very serious about candor and agility, which allows its employees to help produce amazing products and innovate constantly. I look forward to our Hackathons each quarter, not only to work on my own ideas, but to also see what others are passionate about, and what great ideas everyone has.

Q: How has CareerBuilder changed since you joined?

A: CareerBuilder is constantly changing. Focus shifts, teams change, technologies emerge and are adopted. In the three years I have been here, I have been part of a few big transitions, including a complete change in our platform and programming language. Each change brings exciting new opportunities and challenges.

Q: What has been your proudest moment working at CareerBuilder?

A: My proudest moments at CareerBuilder have been watching my ideas come to life. It is always wonderful to watch an idea of yours become something useful to others.

Q: What did you want to be when you were little?

A: When I was little, I wanted to be a veterinarian and a photographer because I have always loved animals and various arts.

Q: What’s the most unusual job you’ve ever had?

A: Administrative Assistant at a storage facility – I met a lot of interesting people each month, and hosting auctions was always pretty crazy.

    Site Technology

    NAME: Alex

    TITLE: Software Engineer II

    DEPARTMENT: Site Technology

    Meet Alex

Q: What attributes do you think an individual needs to be successful at CareerBuilder?

A: Flexibility, curiosity, and conscientiousness. Flexibility to adjust to changes in focus or to help out with other projects so that we can all move forward, the curiosity to ask why things work like they do and to dig into problems to find answers, and the conscientiousness to put those together and figure out the answer to “how can I help?”

Q: What have you enjoyed most about working at CareerBuilder?

A: I have really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and the willingness of each person to help one another, or even to be a sounding board for difficult problems. I enjoy that there are no stupid questions to ask one another. In addition, I like that the company pays attention to the employees and actively works to keep us happy while we work to support the company.

Q: How has CareerBuilder changed since you joined?

A: I feel that CareerBuilder has gotten faster and better since I joined- it feels like the speed and quality of code have both increased and we’re working through new features much sooner than I had anticipated after starting here.

Q: What has been your proudest moment working at CareerBuilder?

A: I have always liked working on projects that eventually result in something I can show to other people. But my proudest moment has been making SEO changes to our site that resulted in changes in the way that Google sees us (and also being able to show that off.) I was also really proud of my latest Hackathon project- I’ve worked at CareerBuilder for less than a year and have worked on other people’s projects at previous Hackathons, but this time I came up with the idea and worked on a solo project that won.

Q: What did you want to be when you were little?

A: I had many career interests when I was little: Pilot, Ballerina, and Mechanical Engineer (specifically, one that makes rollercoasters), Mermaid, Heart Surgeon, Contortionist, and Wonder Woman.

Q: What’s your idea of the perfect day?

A: My perfect day would involve soccer with friends: playing soccer, watching soccer, then playing more soccer, capped off by watching soccer. (I’m really looking forward to the Women’s World Cup in Canada, 2015.)

    Site Technology

    NAME: Roger

    TITLE: Software Engineer

    DEPARTMENT: Site Technology

    Meet Roger

Q: What attributes do you think an individual needs to be successful at CareerBuilder?

A: CareerBuilder employees should be open to change (things change really fast around here!), passionate about their work, and should not be afraid to share their thoughts and opinions about projects or other things what they are working on. Site Technology employees should also be good with a Nerf gun!

Q: What have you enjoyed most about working at CareerBuilder?

A: I love the employee culture here at CareerBuilder. I look forward to coming to work every day because I know I will be challenged and that I will be able to contribute to my team’s success. I really appreciate that I can explore several technologies to expand my overall knowledge of software development.

Q: What’s the most unusual job you’ve ever had?

A: I was on a different career path before becoming a Software Engineer at CareerBuilder. It is not unusual to me, but it may be to others. I was a Forester before I started pursuing a Master’s Degree in Computer Science in 2012. I assisted with the management of over 50,000 acres of timberland while working for a large paper company and most recently owned a forestry consulting firm. I have assisted with planting several million trees in Georgia.

Q: What’s your idea of the perfect day?

A: It’s a tie between spending the day in Athens, tailgating with family and friends for a Georgia Bulldog victory (college football), or spending a day on the beach in a tropical paradise. Yes please!

    Sales

    TITLE: Major Account Executive

    DEPARTMENT: Sales

    Meet Oscar

Q: Describe your career path since you started working at CareerBuilder.

A: I started my career as an Inside Sales Representative, the very first level of sales here at CareerBuilder. Later, I was promoted to Account Executive where I worked under a team in our staffing and recruiting division and then later to a Senior Account Executive (SAE). I was a SAE for fourteen months before I moved into Sales Manager which has been up to this point in my career, one of the most rewarding positions that I have held. I was able to lead a team of Inside Sales Representatives, which is where I first started my career. CareerBuilder truly is a place that if you put the work in you will get promoted and learn more than you can possibly imagine.

Q: If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you?

A: If I had to pick one I would have to go with Oscar De La Hoya.

Q: What is your favorite weekend activity?

A: My favorite weekend activity are my long runs. I’m an endurance running junkie, averaging at least 25 miles per week.

    TITLE: Major Manager

    DEPARTMENT: Sales

    Meet Meghan

Q: What attributes do you think an individual needs to be successful at CareerBuilder?

A: They need to be curious and confident. Curiosity is the key to learning at CareerBuilder. We move FAST - if you’re waiting for formal trainings to learn about new products and strategies then you will always be one step behind. We have an amazing training team but there is no better training than experience. Confidence is equally important. As a new hire, you will need confidence to speak up and ask for clarification when you don’t understand something. Did I mention we move fast? As a leader and mentor, I rely on new hires to slow me down and ask for help.

Q: What have you enjoyed most about working at CareerBuilder?

A:Learning. There is never a dull moment at this company. One consistency at CareerBuilder is change and I thrive on the challenges that change can bring. Churchill said, “A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” If you are the optimist, you will enjoy working at CareerBuilder.

Q: How has CareerBuilder changed since you joined?

A: CareerBuilder is always changing and I’ve been here for nearly a decade so it’s easier for me to say what has not changed. The competition, market, and product offerings have all changed several times since I joined CareerBuilder in 2005. What hasn’t changed is the culture. The executive team is second to none, the pace is fast and the product teams and engineers are always one step ahead of the competition.

Q: What has been your proudest moment working at CareerBuilder?

A: Last year my team won Team of the Year and every individual on the team qualified for President’s Club Trip. Everything came together for us that year and that group of individuals was so fun to work with. Being on stage and celebrating at Kickoff - that was the proudest moment for me so far.

Q: What did you want to be when you were little?

A: An architect. I’m not sure if I knew what it really meant to be an architect at the time but in hindsight it suits me. A get a real satisfaction out of creating an idea and seeing it through until it’s complete. I love the idea of “before and after”.

Q: What’s the most unusual job you’ve ever had?

A: In college I worked at an assisted living community as the assistant activities director. One day the bingo caller had to cancel and I volunteered to step in. My coworkers warned me that the residents were a tough audience and very critical of past bingo callers. I gave it a shot anyway and as two ladies were walking out I overheard one say to the other, “you know, that redhead wasn’t half bad.” I’ll take it!

Q: What always makes you laugh out loud?

A: My daughter, Milly. She is the funniest person I’ve met since meeting my best friend, Bridget, in the third grade. Those two people always make me laugh out loud - it’s the kind of funny where I’ll be sitting at my desk a few days later and something they said pops into my head randomly and makes me laugh out loud again!
